Udyan Sagar is an electronic music producer from New Delhi who co-founded the Bandish Projekt in the late ’90s, and later moved on to producing bass-heavy music as Nucleya. One of India’s early proponents of dubstep, Nucleya performs tours worldwide, playing bone-shaking bass music to full houses of moshing fans at festivals such as Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Lille 3000 and the Electron Festival.

Nucleya has emerged as one of the most exciting, experimental and engaging producers in the Indian scene, and has made his mark as an Indian dance music producer, focusing on sounds and textures that are Indian in sound but international in appeal. His last two EPs, ‘Koocha Monster’ and ‘Koocha Monster Remix EP’, explore global bass music and have cemented Nycleya’s position as the Indian leader of the ‘global bass’ movement.

1. What’s the first thing you do for inspiration when you get into the studio?
I don’t have a studio, and I don’t sit down to make music till I have some sort of an idea to begin with. Ideas come from everywhere – music, films, etc. I like anything which is interesting, edgy, and not like anything else.

2. Favorite or newest piece of hardware/software in your studio?
I just bought a Serum synth… I love it.

3. One synthesizer you wish you owned?
Something that will magically convert my ideas into sick music… haha

4. Your go-to DAW?
Ableton Live.

5. Newest audio technology you’ve heard of?
I keep hearing about Max for Live devices a lot, and I have tried a few. They are mostly free and very useful.

6. Your favorite website?
For music, it’s Create Digital Music
